We must not attack the government for not solving racial issues but instead focus on changing ourselves first. We as people need to address our own insecurities such as a fear of police officers or a fear of blacks in the form of educating one another on issues instead of relying on personal opinion. The future of the issue is dependent on the education of cultures to not only adults but, specifically the youth. According to a study done on the prevalence of racial stereotypes in video game, the majority of the games studied contained stereotypes of minorities. The study stated that “[video Games]portray minority characters through stereotypes such as the violent Black thug, the Asian martial artist, the Asian as model minority, and the Black athlete” (Burgess 1). 99% of teenagers play video games (Irvine 1). That means that virtually all teens are exposed to video games which include racial stereotypes that play a key role in their perception of the world. The issue is not only with other races perceiving others but, how that race perceives themselves. If a black child believes other blacks are only athletes or thugs, he may emulate that mentality.
