The Help, is a film that examines social issues of oppressed groups during the civil rights movement in the 1960’s. The film examines the relationship of the African American hired help to the middleclass white women. In this movie, there are many similarity and differences of themes between modern culture and that of the film. This paper attempts analyzes some of these major trends.
One key similarity I observed was racial tension. The film portrayed an almost blind hatred from the white women toward the African American maids. This blind hatred is best exemplified when Hilly screams at the thought of having to use the same bathroom as Minny.
