Atlanta is a comedy created by Donald Glover showing the struggles of young African American men in Atlanta. In this show, Glover touches on issues of racism, police brutality, Black on Black violence, and the HIV epidemic in Atlanta. This show’s release is coming out in a time where America is beginning to have a resurgence of racial tension. The show is mainly focused around the two cousins Earnest and Alfred “Paper Boy”. Earnest is broke with a kid like many young African Americans in Atlanta, and he is looking for a break in life through the flourishing rap game in Atlanta. In this scene, Paper Boy tries to explain that he has no problem with Caitlyn Jenner’s decision to become a woman. But, he personally is not sexually attracted to a woman that was once a man. This would lead the Montague to say that Paper Boy hates transgender people because he has no father figure in his life. Then the feminist would talk about how she is offended by his use of the words bitch and hoe in his songs. According to Adams and Fuller “Since its emergence on the music scene, rap has undergone a variety of transformations. It has been used as a medium for expressing a variety of ideas, feelings, and emotions” (939). This shows that rap is more than just common insult to people’s character, but a piece of art. People instead of looking at the song as just a song, they look at the song as misogynistic, vulgar, and transphobic. This commercial was supposed to be a spoof off the Trix cereal commercials, but it would have a dark twist. The commercial would start with a Wolf like character who just wants to eat some Coconut Crunch Crunchos. He would run for the cereal box and then a cop would brutally tackle him. When the wolf said he was just hungry the cop got more violent with the wolf and began to sit on him. While the kids were aside watching how the cop was treating the wolf the kids just told cop to leave the wolf alone. But, the cop insisted the kids to back up because “he is just doing his job”. He would then give the kids a death stare that would scare the kids. According to A.H Lesser one of the problems with authority is power (193). This scene is clearly about how many cops today have no backbone and are offended by anyone even children. Manny problems with cops recently has been because the cop feels that he has power over the people and demands obedience. Also, there might be a hidden meaning about people in authority how they are offended by going against what they say. This pertains to the Glover because when creating the show, he thought that critics would be offended by this show and give it bad ratings. in authority in the
