While actions may speak louder than words, it doesn’t mean that they are more powerful when it comes to initiating change and connection. Words are used to express many feelings and bold messages; they can call people to action, bring them to tears, and even drive their adrenaline to act upon them. While words may only be a vibration of vocal chords, they ring out in a harmonious way that compels others to listen. Many historical people, such as Martin Luther King and John F. Kennedy gave speeches to bring hope to their audience, while other figures such as Lori Arviso Alvord wrote about diversity and acceptance. All these voices had power in their words through confidence and passion.…

INTRODUCTION Even though World War II is seen, from an American perspective, as a heroic war in which the United States fought against fascism and for freedom and equality, the race relations in the United States did not reflect these noble goals. In this essay I aim to deconstruct the ways in which race relations in the United States perpetuated systemic racism and the unequal power systems that had been in place for many years. To discuss these points I specifically highlight the cases of Japanese Internment, Native American relations, and Jewish American relations with the United States government.…

Race and Segregation have always been a part of society for as long as one can remember. 2015 compared to the 1960’s is a big change in how people view each other based on their color of skin or their background. This topic leads me to the movie Remember the Titans. In Remember the Titans the importance of equality, friendship, and desegregation is the key point of the movie. When watching this movie viewers take away the value of appreciating one human being for not their quality of life or skin tone but in their self being and their beliefs of the world.…

“If you continue to ignore each other we’ll go to four-a-day practice.” Coach Boone says to the team as he wants them to come together as a team and overcome their hatred towards each other. A mid-shot is focused on Coach Boone as he speaks, this shows his leadership, as for the camera angle of the Titans, they are shown in a long shot and the camera switches to each different table and displays the team’s upset and irritated faces. Another example of overcoming challenges is when Coach Boone takes the Titans to the Gettysburg war sight. He uses a historical allusion to reflect on the worlds past events and refers to the world they are in today.…

In the texts I have studied in class, the authors/directors have portrayed their views on the topic of discrimination. In my report I will analyse the overarching theme of “Discrimination will always be prevalent in society” present in my four texts and discuss the connections between them. My first two texts I studied were “Brave New World” written by Aldous Huxley, and “Gattaca” directed by Andrew Niccol. Both these texts show that “Discrimination is a part of human nature”…
