Gender stereotyping should be stopped because it is insulting to both men and women. There are a few theories why it should be stopped. Firstly, advertisements uses humour as a way to achieve success.
Gender stereotyping happens in advertising as it attracts more viewers, therefore more revenue earned. In advertisements, usually woman is portray as very tender, nurturing and warm-hearted. But actually in reality, there are some women who does not fit in. Nonetheless, men are portray as a superior and with a logic mind. Many times women are often seen as vulnerable and receive insults all the time. Women get positive reactions from viewers if they are pictured as motherly and while they are at a high position people start start to criticise .Gender stereotyping causes gender inequality. There are four theories regarding the study of people's reactions when they see a sexist advertisement. The first one, ambivalent sexism towards women. This theory shows that women should not be perceive as powerless because basically both men and women are the same. Second theory is ambivalent sexism towards men. It proves that men are incapable of taking care of themselves therefore they need women's help. The third theory, social dominance orientation (SDO). This tells us that equality is important, especially racism and nationalism. Last theory is cavalier humour beliefs. It explains that there can be more to jokes. However, it is capable to prevent these misleading ideas and judgements by instruct people to learn more about cultural competency. First and foremost, cultural stereotype sets incorrect preconceptions on people based on unreliable sources. According to Caroline Osinski (2014), stereotypes are the unconstructive way of evaluating a person or a group of people based on overstating, bias, the lack of knowledge, racial discrimination and false believe in subjective factors and experiences. Rigoglioso(2008) stated that negative stereotypes can set racism ideas and behaviours in the kindest people. Even "positive stereotypes", such as all brunettes are considered smart, which is often positive still give a preconceived idea(Caroline Osinski (2014)). By bias assumption and ignorant view, cultural stereotype causes unfairness in genders, nationalities, and races. Moreover, this false belief sets wrong images on people, making ones assumes he or she understands someone before even talk to the others. The matter even get worse because of the popularity of the internet and online social media. More specifically, these social networking service not only spread the unrealistic images of people in our mind without our awareness but also assault us every second with cultural stereotypes which leads to racism ideas. These unreliable thoughts make us arrange
