Trust between law enforcement and local citizens is constantly being broken down with every racial profile case. Locals no longer trust their officers, the ones who are supposed to be their protectors (Elliott). People are less likely to report an affliction or crime due to the fear or mistrust between law enforcement. They refuse to give information that may be able to solve the case (Elliott). “The University of Minnesota’s Black Faculty and Staff Association, along with other departments of African-American studies and other student groups, sent a letter to the university’s president asking for the campus police halt continuing publishing the race of suspects in campus crime alerts. Deborah Ramirez, a professor from Northeastern University of Law states racial profiling is a “sloppy, lazy substitute for actual policing” (Elliot). Police’s jobs are meant for protecting, remaining peace, and to make sure laws are conformed to. Research shows racial profiling diverting law enforcement and police consideration away from the actual signs of suspicious activities and behaviors to react to the situation at hand (Eliott). Racial profiling is ineffective due to the failure of focussing on the actual crime but rather than fixating on the situation. Racial profiling is carried out, but based upon traffic stops, nine out of 10 minority group individuals are not guilty of anything illegal. This proves racial profiling is
