Multiple police officers were targeted with gunshot wounds while others dealt with their squad cars blown up in flames. Riots and protests spread across the country and lasted for several weeks. The phrase “Black lives matter” resulted from these teen shootings and created even more tension between different colored communities and law enforcement. In 2014, Attorney General Eric Holder announced that in addition to race and ethnicity, federal officers can no longer profile individuals based on gender, national origin, religion, sexual orientation and gender identity (ProQuest, “At Issue: Racial Profiling”). The updated policy also prohibits officials from using racial profiling in national security cases (ProQuest, “At Issue: Racial Profiling”). Police seem to forget these policies exist and still act upon the minorities. While racial profiling leads to discrimination and violence, it is also unconstitutional. Most men tend to think they are better than women at almost everything they do. They think their power and strength outlaws what a woman can bring to the table. A lot of women feel portrayed when men are chosen over them even if they are the better fit proven from their resumes. In spite of the achievements made and the massive and active participation of women, their real access to power and influence in decision-making processes is still very limited (Moreno 50). In 2007, the "Inter-American Year of Women" was created to raise public awareness of gender issues (Moreno 50). The Year became a space for reflection, celebration, and renewal of commitment to advance towards the realization of women's human rights and the achievement of gender equality in the Americas (Moreno 50). The problem of gender inequality exists to extremes beyond belief. A common question pondered by women is why men rape women. Due to male dominance, the feminist theory blames rape on gender inequality (Thio, Taylor, and Schwartz 113). It explains that since rape serves to preserve male dominance in a sexually unequal society, men are likely to assault women (Thio, Taylor, and Schwartz 113). After all, America is known as the country that is supposed to provide unlimited amount of freedom. When women are not treated the same or judged differently, it is quite hard to experience life
