The world we live in today is empowered by technology. Everything people do all around the world is shared socially online with one another. While this has many advantages, it can leave peoples judgement in the wrong direction in certain situations which can lead to racial profiling. Racial profiling is when an individual has accusations of a person who they feel threatened by or have suspicion of committing a crime. From a symbolic interactionist perspective, this is a serious social problem that has been around for such a long time but is getting much attention now because of the innovation of technology and internet over the past decade. While racial profiling has its pros and cons, it also can help keep people safe from crime that could have happened but also leaves bad stereotypes and mindsets of individuals.
Racial profiling can be a very effective way of catching criminals who are going to engage in crimes. Every city has its own issues dealing with criminal activities and officers respond to crime reported by individuals in certain areas more than others due to the …show more content…
Racial profiling is a racist tactic of people, not just by police who label others, but everyone as a whole. It is based on the attitude that consists of false and derogatory beliefs about the group that is being racially profiled (Bou-Habib 34). It is wrong by claiming that certain racial groups are responsible for all crimes and are less able to comply with laws and we have reason to reject racial profiling if its use is accompanied by a harassing manner on part of public officials towards those investigated (Bou-Habib 34). If you look at racial profiling from a conflict perspective, those with power and money define what is normal in our society. Law enforcement often penalizes those without power which usually involves lower class poverty families, and benefits those with power who have a lot of
