Since the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, racial profiling has become a social/civil rights issue(s). After 9/11, claims centered around Middle Eastern individuals due to The War on Terror, and so-called efforts to fight terrorism (Harris, 2006). Racial profiling is beneficial because living in a world of uncertainty as a result racial profiling allows the narrowing a pool of potential suspects moreover, use less resources which would be needed when weaving through a larger pool of suspects. Moreover, behavior and body language speaks a language of its own that stands out contrary to focusing on an individual skin color, and physical features. Furthermore, law enforcement officials are trained to focus on any suspicious behavior of an individual such as someone heavily sweating, purchasing a one-way ticket, traveling without luggage, bank card or …show more content…
For example, if you live in a middle or high-class neighborhood, and you see a homeless man walking the street, one might assume and profile the homeless man as someone who is plotting to commit a crime such as breaking into a house, or robbing someone. On the other hand, if you live in a lower-class neighborhood, and you see an individual with expensive items one would assume and profile the individual as they are selling drugs, or committed a theft. This type of profiling isn’t always fair. However, law enforcement individuals use it to identify and prevent possible future criminal
