Have you ever thought that America wasn 't as great as you thought it was? Unless you are wealthy or in power you may see the dark side of America. An America where you are constantly watched and discriminated due to your appearance. Having fear of those who are meant to protect us. America is great but not perfect.
People get discriminated and racially profiled almost everywhere they go. It could happen to anyone. No matter what race you are, you are at the risk of being profiled. In the passage Surveillance is Necessary by Dan White it discusses that racial profiling is necessary to keep a business successful. To support his claim he states that the retail industry loses about 31.3 billion each year and shoplifting represents one-third of that. As big as Oprah is in America she was a victim in Switzerland when a shop assistant refused to show her a handbag because it was “too expensive”. I have come across the same situation before. I went to a sneaker shop planning to buy a couple of shoes. I worked all summer with my uncle and saved up to buy three pairs of shoes. I asked for the shoes I wanted and they asked if I was sure I could afford them. I told them of course and continued shopping. I noticed that the sales associate started giving me attitude when I asked for a different size. When I was paying they asked where I had gotten all that money.
