The United States of America is known as the “land of the free”, but seems to have a serious problem with racial profiling, which includes police who target people of color and minority ethnicities for no reason at all. These innocent individuals are discriminated based on their appearance, by their race and also by their skin color which is clearly discriminatory. Those who judge them do not even realize how these individuals are suffering because of this problem. For this reason, racial profiling violates everything the United States stands for. It is unjust to treat others differently just because they are from other races; Every immigrant should feel some modicum of freedom in the United States of America.
For example, just because one is African American this does not mean that he/she is a bad person who steals or does things to harm others. In an article, Jim Crow Policy by Bob Herbert argues, “An overwhelming 84 percent of the stops in the first three-quarters of 2009 were of black Hispanic New Yorkers” (Jim Crow). Most of these arrests the police made, were mostly of African and Hispanic people which is really disturbing. Most of these arrests the police made were also unnecessary, so this clarifies that the authorities were also racial profiling. In another article, Everything Isn’t Racial Profiling by Linda Chavez she states, “Sure it’s unpleasant to be a suspect when you’re innocent” (Chavez 565). She understands how some people feel when they are suspects of such problems because she has been one of those suspects herself. She feels like it is unnecessary to stop them just because of their skin
