Lopez and Pasko (2014) explain that Latinas are prone to experiencing domestic violence, school problems, broken families, community violence, etc. Since they are prone to victimization and various social factors that affect their choices. Latinas are more likely to be arrested than Latinos, and are more prone to becoming sexually/physically assaulted. Lopez and Pasko (2014) state that Latinas are merely trying to survive, and their victimization seems like criminalization. The system treats Latina women very poorly and view their victimization as bad girl behavior, and being simply sexually promiscuous. This can also be related to the labeling theory, where Latinas have actually accepted their label and deviate from society. Which in some cases that Lopez and Pasko (2014) have mentioned is likely to occur in most minority groups. Many correctional officers view Latinas as living an inappropriate lifestyle, while white women who commit crimes are seen as having low self esteem and abandonment issues. Even more so, Lopez and Pasko (2014) have found studies that about 75 percent of white female inmates will receive proper treatment, while 35 percent Latinas and 20 percent African American women received treatment. This is obviously an issue if white female inmates, who are no different than Latinas and African American women, are receiving better treatment. It clearly demonstrates how racist the system is. That being said, Latina women are often discriminated against due to their upbringing, gender, and then being associated with those stereotypes as having a bad girl attitude and accepting
