One aspect of my own social background that has greatly affected my attitude in life is my view on law enforcement. Growing up I would always see how differently law enforcement would treat African-Americans compared to Caucasians. How I know the difference is because I have been in both situations where I have been stopped by an officer compared to being stopped by an officer with an African-American friend. The officer does not even raise his voice or gives an attitude back. He just kept quiet, and came back from his patrol car with a written warning. I was in total shock that he did not write me a ticket. I know in my heart if that was an African American or other person of color committing the same act they would have been in handcuffs in the back of the patrol car. Why I say that is because I have been in the car with a friend of mine who is African American during a traffic stop. He was pulled over for bogus reasons, and treated like he was scum when not even provoking the officer with a disrespectful attitude. The officer had a very disrespectful attitude towards my friend, and automatically assumed he had drugs on him. So he pulled out my friend from the car detained him, and put him back of the patrol car. He then told me to just get out of the car and sit on the curb. He searched the car and long behold there was nothing. He then searches my friend and makes him remove his shirt, socks, and pants because he had shorts underneath. He then puts my friend back in the patrol car. Long story short he doesn’t end up searching me, and writes my friend two tickets. One for his brake light being out which it was not out
