An excellent way to illustrate a difference in culture or ethnicity is in an interracial relationship. Established on personal experience, I have concluded that interracial relationships can be very demanding and effortful, particularly when there is a great significance in cultures. An interracial couple who are both from North America may not experience as much work as what I experienced. There may be some cultural differences, but it may not be as significant as a couple from different sides of the globe. I have been in two relationships of the sort, and the first one was extremely laborious.…

Racism has been defined in many ways from judgements and prejudices to actions on racial superiority. While there are many discussions on racism, its’ roots, and the implications on the lived circumstance of those in today’s society, I believe one prominent, modern Africana philosopher has a grasp like no other on the topic. Lewis Gordon describes racism and its dimensions in this quote. “Racism, properly understood, is a denial of the humanity of a group of human beings either on the basis of race or color. This denial, properly executed, requires denying the presence of other human beings in such relations.…

Although the “relation satisfaction isn’t significantly different for interracial partners”, the biggest challenge they face is finding acceptance from not only they people who they love, but in addition to the people that surround them. A close friend of mine, takes part in a interracial relationship, her and her partner have been together for four years now. Thanks to those men and women that sacrificed their lives so that we can all be equal and not discriminated, interracial couples still are, occasionally faced with challenging situation. Using my friend as an example, they faced many difficulties when their relationship began, most of their problems originated through their parents, who “didn’t think getting involved together would be a good decision” as if it was the parents decisions to chose who they were to love. It was hard for either of their families to accept each other, one was a hispanic family, while the other one as African-American family.…

In Peter Shaffer’s Equus, the plot revolves around seventeen year-old Alan Strang’s obsession with horses, culminating in his blinding six horses in one night. Despite committing this terrible crime, Alan is not inherently a bad person; instead, he is the victim of social taboos surrounding religion and sexuality as enforced by his parents and social heterosexual expectations as represented by Jill. Furthermore, no one will hold these people and concepts accountable for their actions. This allows them, a representation of society at large, to continue oppressing those who have deviations from what they consider normal beliefs, personalities, or behaviors.…

In Makarechi’s article “What the Data Really Says About Police and Racial Bias.” he states that although there is not a ton of competent data of fatal police shootings, there is still a wealth of academic research, official and media investigations, and court rulings on the specific topic of race and police officers. The Hive had collected 18 statistics of the such to reveal the evidence we do have. All together, the research gives an idea of a nation where a person’s race can affect the encounters he/she has with a law enforcement officer. It is found in an analysis by the Washington Post that colored americans who are fatally shot by law enforcement are less likely to be posing any lethal threat to the officers than their white counterparts.…

During the 1900s, many African American people emerged in the public eye such as Martin Luther King, Jr and Malcolm X, who continued to fight for the equality of black people. In 2008, when Senator Barack Obama was the first black male to be elected to be the president of the United States, some people credit this time in history as the day racism died. They believe if Americans can elect a black person to run our country, racism against black people must be something of the past (Brunners, 2015). Almost immediately after becoming the president-elect, he started receiving threats and hate mail, purely because of the color of his skin (Neiwert, 2016).…

Collins purpose is to construct an analysis of the underlying connections between Black sexual politics and the new racism. These analyses include, “a set of ideas and social practices shaped by gender, race, and sexuality that frame Black men and women’s treatment of one another, - perceived and treated by others” (Collins p.7). Collins distinguishes the differences between those illustrations by providing the historical context followed by empirical and conceptual studies that offer a comprehensive overview of Black America. Modern society has maintained a distorted image that has influenced a new set of racism within African Americans and the society they exist in. This concept of new racism is crucial as Collins states fundamental reasons…
