When students have less access to important courses or have lack of teachers who do not meet the state teaching requirements, we are hindering their education experience. One fourth of high schools with the most African Americans and Hispanic students do not offer anything other than basic math classes and a third do not have any kind of chemistry classes. Automatically, those students do not have access to the possible education and career paths they might have interest in. Seventy-one percent of white high school students and eighty-one of Asian-American high school students attend schools where they offer a broad range of math and sciences courses. Only fifty-seven of black students, and less than half of American Indian and native-Alaskan students have access to the broad range. (U.S. Department of Education). To fix the racial and systematic inequalities with education, we must first educate and prepare our teachers to teach equally. They must have the knowledge, skill, and understanding to not single out or perpetuate the isolation of students based on race. The only way to fix the schools, is to fix our teachers.
