To be honest, when I saw the title of the assignment, I was confused; I moved to the United States not so long ago, and I can not say that I am an expert enough to define what are the greatest challenges America is facing right now. However, this is my country now. I like living here; my son is growing here; and I want him to grow up in a happy and secure society. In my opinion, the most important challenges for us - the American people, are racial inequality and extremely expensive higher education. All my knowledge on the issue of racial inequality before moving to the United States was mainly gathered from «Uncle Tom 's Cabin» by E. Stowe, I had read in early childhood. Despite the fact that I grew up in a multinational country, this kind of a problem did not exist in the Soviet Union. Probably, because there was no difference in skin color, so it was difficult to determine the nationality only by appearance. I could not agree more. Prices for higher education are sky-high and students that are not lucky enough to come from a wealthy family, cannot afford it. Scholarships and financial aid do not cover all costs, and the students are left with only two choices - either to graduate with a huge debt or to work while studying, which may have a drastic impact on student’s success, because one cannot simultaneously be successful in everything. I hope that the new Free Community College Proposal, which suggests to make community colleges free, will be signed because it will significantly increase the chances to obtain a higher education for the middle
