In The Help by Kathryn Stockett the suppression of black maids is the main reason of anger, so racial segregation actions always cause through violence attitudes. During 1960s the segregation of blacks and the superiority of whites dominate the southern United States during this pried. For instance, the black maids get injustice treatment by white women. At the beginning, the main cause of anger is the mistreatment in white women's homes towards the black maids. There are two main black maids suffering of racism and this is the initial spark lead to their anger. One of the main black maids who suffer of racism is Aibleen Clark, a black maid who takes care of white children and she considers the babies she raised as her own which show …show more content…
Minny works for Miss Walter, Miss's Hilly mother. Skeeter asserts how white women destroy the reputation of those they hate. Minny faces discrimination and racism when she works as a maid for Miss Walter. For instances, when Miss Hilly sends her mother to the old folks home and asks Minny to work for her, Minny refuses. Thus, Miss Hilly started rumors and tells all her friends that Minny is a thief in order to obligate Minny to work for her, so she will have no choice except to work for Hilly. As a result Minny is fired by Hilly that's why Minny became very angry towards Hilly and decides to take revenge. Stockett sheds the light on another racist practice of discrimination against Minny when Hilly thinks black people carry different disease. Hilly thinks the blacks is different from the whites they can catch different diseases. Therefore, they will not allow using the same whites' bathroom. "Miss Hilly talk slow, like she spreading icing on a cake. You just tell Raleigh every penny he spends on the bathroom he'll get back when y'all sell this house. She nod like she agreeing with herself. All these houses they're building without maid's quarters? It's just plain dangerous. Everybody knows they carry different kinds of diseases than we do, I double"(8, 9). So the bathroom is considered a racist status in Mississippi and the main reason of blacks' anger. After that Minny works for Miss Celia She is also discriminated by other white people in some public services, but there is a difference between Hilly's treatment towards Minny and Celia's treatment. Hilly treats Minny in a rude way she is not only accused Minny of stealing, but also she started the rumors. She's been telling people that Minny is a thief. That's why Minny can't find a job. On the other hand Celia treats Minny in a good way. Celia paid Minny more than she was getting before. She lets Minny leaves early and she gets week ends off. Celia does not mind

The extreme way in which the Scottsboro Boys were arrested is proof that the white folks had biased opinions that affected their actions. A posse of white men from Paint Rock, Alabama collected the Negroes from the scene. The Negroes were then tied together and taken to a jail (Linder, The Trials of “The Scottsboro Boys”). The actions were cruel to the Negroes and the language of white people as well. Mayella Ewell degraded Tom Robinson, the defendant in To Kill a Mockingbird, by saying, “come here, nigger, and bust up this chiffarobe for me… (Lee 241).”…

Stories of maids being abused by their employers, Hilly “helping” Yule May get four years in prison, and Robert Brown being beaten when it was discovered he used a white bathroom by mistake are examples of violence in the book. The change from racial inequality is prevented by violence being used against the black community by the white populations. Stockett uses the violence and racial tension from that time period in the book to add emotion and drama to the story, but it also shows how dangerous change is; anyone who tries to make a change or anything relative to change would be in serious…

Racism in Jackson in the 1960’s was nothing unusual, especially from the experiences of the black maids in Jackson. Some of the black maids were abused but most were treated poorly. For example, Hilly is trying to get a law passed that is definitely racist, “A bill that requires every white home to have a separate bathroom for the colored help” (page 10). Later in Chapter One, when Aibileen is leaving from Miss Leefolt’s house she spots Miss Leefolt looking around, Aibileen suspects she’s looking for a spot for a separate colored bathroom (page 13). Additionally, adding onto the colored bathroom bill that was proposed and Hilly is trying to sign, when Miss Leefolt realizes that Mae Mobley is being taken to Aibileen’s toilet to potty train…

Miss Hilly ate Minny’s poop unknowingly but she did not get sick. This contradicts the belief that if you share a bathroom with colored people will get you sick and it also acts as insurance for the book that Skeeter is writing. When Minny said, “Miss Hilly can’t let anybody find out the book is about Jackson. She don’t want anybody to know that story’s about her” (Stockett 432), it allowed Hilly not to rat out Skeeter because if she did believe that the book was about Jackson, she would also be admitting that she ate Minny’s poop and did not get…

Andrews quotes, “in “The Help” Aibileen’s story is tightly tied to those of white women around her,” (354). Andrews supports that pop-culture shows other minority groups of being unsupportive and fragile without the being of a majority group which Hollywood showed in “The Help;” Reason being since a black women was a maid and a white women was the “ruling” characters. Either way, pop-culture adorns using historically brought down scenarios today to be overt and oppressive of some race. This is not only racial discriminate but rather redefining what it means to…

When one black maid wanted to borrow 75 dollars to support her children went to university, her employers refused to give any help. Notably, very few white people in the movie would like to have an equal talk with black maids like Sketter did, most of their conversation was about command and complaint: they simply believed that black people didn’t deserve it. It is a natural thought to treat ‘colored people ‘with no respect to their rights. That said, the racial discrimination towards black people is institutional but not restricted to any single individual. From a few black maids to the entire black population in Jackson, the Help successfully reveals the harsh environment for black people in…

Ironically, this divide based on colour of skin changed how individuals lived.as coloured people belong in a poor and environment, compared to white people who belong in a rich and luxurious city. This social divide has created false attributes towards both sides of town: coloured people are referred to as ‘dirty’ and white people are referred to as ‘normal’ people. In other words, white people are held even more superior and coloured people are treated and respected much worse. Coloured maids are not able to express their emotions, but rather obey every they are given by a white person, as if they are robots or slaves, not human beings. This social divide has driven the plot of this novel, as Aibileen, Minny, and Skeeter eventually begin to take action against this racism, leading to next argument, hope.…

The white ladies in “The Help,” like Miss Hilly Holbrook and Elizabeth Leefolt demonstrate strong power over the black maids, like Aibileen through mental control. There is a huge barrier been cultural views during this time. While the white families lived in royalty, the blacks were forced to perform hard labor. Aibileen, Minny, and Constantine did not grow up with dreams of being a maid but through learned culture, they knew that they were required to do so. Although Skeeter understood the culture that she was to obey, she realized quickly that her beliefs did not fall under the same tree as her friends/family.…
