Many societies are becoming much more racially and ethnically diverse. The incorporation of different ethnicities in a society have been common for several decades already. Huge progress has been made in modern civilizations in terms of reducing racism. However, racism still exists in our life more commonly than you think. Racism, as defined by the Oxford Dictionary, is the prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one’s own race is superior. Here we have the infamous example of the Holocaust, where millions of Jews were murdered by the Nazis who think they were more superior. Racial discrimination comes in many different forms. “Discrimination has been shown to increase the risk of stress, depression, the common cold, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, breast cancer, and mortality,” as reported by The Atlantic. This adds an extra stress factor for those who colored people in daily life which they might even not notice. Under the chronic stress, colored people may eventually develop psychological diseases such as anxiety and depression. Further, chronic stress will negatively impact the personal development of any colored youngsters. To avoid any colored teens to grow up into psychopaths or serial killers, preventive measures for teens should be taken at a young age. Firstly, we can perform the desensitization techniques on the colored teens. In psychology, desensitization refers to reduced emotional responsiveness to a negative or aversive stimulus through repeated exposure to the stimulus. Conveniently, the process of desensitization can start at the prenatal stage. The pregnant mother can play recordings of racially discriminative insults to the fetus everyday to accommodate the almost born baby. The mother should also repeatedly the insultive words throughout the whole adolescence of the kid. As a result, the accomodated child will be fully trained and prepared to face the harsh words by their schoolmates without feeling stressed at …show more content…
Eventhough many delusional people still think that we live in a peaceful world where racism does not exist anymore, but the truth is, racism is still around us much closer than we think. Have you ever heard that people say that Asians are smarter? This may seem to be a complement, but I’m sorry, this is racism as well. We all born with the same talents and abilities, why is there a need to differentiate all of us? Unfortunately, racism won’t be able to be eradicated for another few generations. Racism will still exist for a while if someone sucessfully builds a wall at the southern border. What we can do right now is to correctly educate our youth. Teach them that the differences between people are not something to be afraid of. Teach them that we can overcome our differences with love and tolerance. Teach them that we’re all human beings with the same flesh, blood, and spirit beneath our
