In the 1700s African Americans were enslaved against their will in the United States. African Americans were auctioned off to the highest bidder as slaves. It was not until the Civil War were they were freed, before this war, black people were not considered citizens. The roots to modern day discrimination go back to this time where stereotypes were developed. These stereotypes followed African Americans throughout time. Religious discrimination is a big issue with an interesting history.
People have different opinions of racism, this is probably because there are different types of racism, I will list them below.

It is important to be mindful of all the types of racism so you can be aware of racism in all instances.
Many people think that religious and racial discrimination was abolished long ago, however this is not factual. Racism even goes into the education system. A recent study in 2016 found racism in teachers. Black students were found to be 4 times as likely as white students to be suspended. But that's not where it ends. A Yale study came out where teachers were shown videos of kids, one black and one white, they were asked to identify challenging behavior in the children. However, none of the kids displayed any bad behavior. Yet, 42% of teachers picked the black boy over the white boy. Racism is still around today and it is very important for everyone to be on the lookout and to try and prevent
