As an African American woman my family has experienced numerous occasions of different racial attitudes. I remember the stories that my grandmother Mary has told me of a nation that was full of segregation and ignorance. Having to sit on a segregated bus and only shop and work in the colored community. She has tons of stories in which race played a huge part in her life which makes these days even more special. When I was a young girl she was very much about pointing out to me that a person was white. Asking if my friends were white or black and making remarks about how it was not ok to date or marry a white person. The older I got the more I realized why her mind set was that way.
