Rachael Alcohol: A Narrative Fiction

Superior Essays
Rachael Imogen Foster stared at the plastic stick in her hands and she knew she was in big trouble. This was not happening to her. One night… just one night with him and now this?! What was she thinking? Oh, right… she hadn’t been thinking! She had been dead-ass drunk. Thoughts were rushing through her head like the wind. She glanced at the clock above the toilet.
12:30PM. Danny was fast asleep, she could hear him snoring in the other room. She wondered if… just if he was still awake. If she was quiet enough, she would probably be able to sneak out of the house and check out his favorite hang-outs to see if she could find him. It was worth a shot. Danny would be angry as hell if she woke him up now.
Rachael got up quietly and opened the bathroom

She was determined to see this through to the end, even if it meant Danny finding out. Rachael just hoped he stayed asleep until she got home. The alcohol should keep him out until at least six o’clock in the morning, if not later. That boy could drink like there was no tomorrow. Alcohol was her safe haven at times; it kept Danny at bay, so she could do things she needed to do without him watching her 24/7. It was her freedom.
“Okay, I believe you…” he admitted, reaching out and squeezing her shoulder gently.
Rachael let out a sigh of relief. Good, so she had one person on her side. Now they had to figure out the details of the plan. Was he going to be involved? Was he going to be there for the baby? Was he going to be there for her? Or was she going to do this on this on her own? Or even get Danny involved?
“Do you want be involved with the baby?” she whispered, looked up at him nervously.
“If you want me to,” Alejandro insisted, rubbing her shoulder

This was not going to be very pretty. She would be happy as long as her baby was full-term and healthy. Her baby would have a father and hopefully her parents would be accepting of her choice.
Heck, maybe she would go to college after all if things didn’t work out with Danny. This could mean a whole new life for her, a better life for her. Maybe this was meant to happen to her. Perhaps this was the way things were meant to be this way in the first place. She just hoped this didn’t end in tragedy. She didn’t want anyone to die because of a one-night stand at a party.
“I want you to be in the baby’s life and mine. I want our baby to have a father, a father he or she knows. I want you to come to the appointments with me. I want you to eventually meet my parents since they should know who I’m having a baby with,” Rachael explained what she wanted him to be involved with. It wasn’t going to be easy; it was going to be a challenge. It wasn’t something to be taken lightly.
“Alright,” Alejandro agreed, nodding. “You know it won’t be easy for us to see each other, right?” She knew it wasn’t going to be easy from the start, but this is what she really

In today’s society, people are encouraged to adapt to the movement of political correctness as to not offend anyone. According to Princeton, political correctness is “avoidance of expressions or actions that can be perceived to exclude or marginalize or insult people who are socially disadvantaged or discriminated against.” While preventing discrimination is the alleged goal of the movement, I believe it is counterproductive and on the contrary instills intolerance and ignorance. One of the biggest goals of the political correctness movement is to adjust our language to be more sensitive to those who are discriminated against by race, sex, religion, etc. However, this adaptation does not show acceptance but instead points…
