These hot-topics have changed over time, in the recent years we’ve seen the repercussions of the divide over gay marriage. Currently, we face racial inequalities that many believe to need a reformation. These racial inequities have existed for much longer, however. With the arrival of the new century, and with the predominant position of the United States of America in the world, the other nations’ eyes were focused on race equality issue. The race equality became in a nightmare for America, and any response for political or economic equality of the races was violence (Franklin, 72). Franklin ended the second chapter with a reflection that the advances on race equality were little in America during the first half of the XX century, but with the hope that the misfortune related to that topic stays in the…

From the start of America’s foundation through pilgrimage to the foundational principles of this country founded through in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution; race relations have consistently been a controversial topic. Despite significant historical advances, race relations have still yet to holistically improve. In the article, “The State of Race in America” (30 June 2016), the author, Charles M Blow writes to share the opposing views of race relations in America, that inhibit the progress of positive race relations developing in America. He proves that race relations will not change in America without intentional effort towards changing the way society understands and views race relations in America. Through the use…

Imagine a world wanting to go forward, but only going backwards. A world where the government regulates its citizens to make sure that they are “equal” and of average standard, where if anyone dares to be above average, handicaps are forced upon them. This is the world of Harrison Bergeron, a world of dystopia, but in the meantime, will this also be the fate of America? Equality is the state of being equal in status, rights, and opportunities. Although equality is strived for everywhere in society, it does not lead to a utopia.…

When growing up in the United States many have heard throughout their childhood that “society here is equal”. This, however, is untrue in many ways. For one, America didn’t become close to equal until women achieved their rights a couple of decades back. The United States shows how unequal it actually is towards its people, the land of supposed freedom to obtain success. Malcolm Gladwell informs in his article, “Black Like Them”, how there is an aspiration for a better future due to the people looking past racism, however it can’t be achieved due to there always having to be a scapegoat in society.…

Race relations in Britain definitely improved in the years 1948 to 1997, due to many reasons, such as legislation and improved understanding of other races over time. However, there were still racial tensions and issues in Britain by 1997, such as discrimination in employment. There were also events that showed that relations were not as positive as people may have thought, such as the Brixton Riots and the murder of Stephen Lawrence. In 1948 there was mass immigration from the Caribbean due to high rates of inflation and unemployment there whilst in Britain there was a need for rebuilding after the war and a shortage of labour. The Empire Windrush was the first ship to arrive and it carried 492 people, most of whom were young men.…

Race Relations in the United States has been a volatile subject dating back as far as we know and can read in history. The United States and its citizens have long created plans to tackle these conflicts that arise from race relations, yet they seem nothing more than good simple ideas that have grown into forced approaches on society. Ideas that have changed and evolved over time to be only a sliver of the original tone and plan to begin with. If one doesn’t follow these opinions, you could be seen as racist or impeding progress. It brings about the question, are we any better off with these approaches being presented to citizens of the country.…

It is very hard to believe that the U.S is still fighting for equality towards everyone for so long. In the Speech by Obama, he notices that the union isn’t perfect, but it will continue to grow by working together. In the poem, Democracy, by Langston Hughes he also notices that many fear the world because people doesn’t accept them as a equal, but he knows they know they are just as important as everyone else. This is and important topic because people all over the world are being discriminated and racially profiled for things as little as race or even gender when we should be living as equal people in the…

The United States of America is on the brink of becoming the corruptly divided capitalist society envisioned by Karl Marx over a hundred years ago. The top of the upper class, referred to by Marx as the bourgeoisie, is constantly gaining more power, wealth, and dominion over the rest of the citizens in the United States. In the future, the middle class and lower class will be nothing more than what Marx referred to as the proletariat, or workers for the upper class. This generation of students receiving their education will become the worker bees to the the queen bees that fill the upper class within America along with the rest of the lower classes. Inequality will continue to grow between all members of America, whether it be due to: race,…

At each opportunity, Americans must put aside their differences and walk in the shoes of their fellow man or woman. Only by closing the financial gap between the wealthy and the lower class can we preserve the middle class. Only by closing the financial gap between men and women can we preserve the family unit. And only by not seeing race, gender, or color, can we preserve our way of life. As the president once noted, “we are not blue states or red states, we are the United…
