Race And Discipline In Schools Essay

Throughout the years many incidents have occurred involving police and citizens all over the United States. Many incidences started as a simple altercation and sadly lead to someone being killed or seriously injured. It could’ve been a misunderstanding or maybe the person was just not cooperating with the officers, but in some cases it might also be that the officer was not using the power he/she had or was abusing it. Many things might have contributed to the problem, and of many are race issues and hate. For example, a recent incident that happened in South Carolina, where a sheriff’s deputy tackled a high school student out of her seat because he believed that the student was not cooperating. The first article “Race and Discipline in the South Carolina schools.” By David Graham gives facts backed up by statistics that African Americans are more likely to be disciplined in schools than whites or Hispanics. The second article on the other hand gives some facts to support the main point however not as much as the first article. Even though David Graham’s article has more facts, both article have some similar facts that were used to support the main point. Both articles use the fact that many African Americans in schools tend to be suspended and or expelled because of the discipline in the schools. School discipline does affect the way students do in their academics, which causes a repeating cycle, especially if the students are disciplined
