Race plays an important role in the life of every individual. The race a person belongs will determine how successful that person will be. Although a lot has been done in the past years to reduce the effect of the racial divide, people from a particular race are more favored compared to people from the other races. In America today, the color of a man dictates if he is going to be successful or not. The race divide is so powerful that it dictates the quality of housing, education, judicial decision, employment, and police brutality a person can get at a particular moment. Ninety percent of African Americans live in communities which have poor standards of living. Black communities experience tons of problems ranging from poor road network to poor health system, while White communities are provided with the needed social amenities. A black man may find it difficult to get a good apartment even when they can afford it. In their search for a place of residence, Blacks have a higher chance of being turned down compared to a white man of lower status. The cost of getting an apartment is higher for African Americans than for their White counterpart. The article Discrimination in Housing Against Nonwhites Persists Quietly, U.S. Study Finds states that Blacks are more likely to pay more deposit and rent fees for apartments compared to Whites (Dewan). This explains that race plays an important factor in determining how expensive an apartment will be. If a Black man is fortunate to get an apartment in a good neighborhood, he is likely to pay more fees for rent. This leads to higher cost of living for an average Black man. The few Blacks who got an apartment in Whites communities are most likely to be unwelcome in those communities. They have to be careful of their behaviors because they will be pointed at if anything should go wrong in the communities. Education is the basic road that leads to success for everybody. The level of success an individual attains depends on the quality of education the individual gets. Children learn fast when they are young. Therefore, the quality of education they get at a young age dictates their level of productivity when they are older. Compared to schools in White communities, schools in black communities are poorly funded. These schools lack the basic infrastructure as well as the basic teaching aid these students need to excel academically. Most students in these communities have never seen a standard library or science laboratories. These children are made to believe that the amenities they have now is what they could ever get. In addition, some schools do not have the required numbers of qualified teachers to provide the proper education Black students deserve, while schools in the white communities are well funded and have the necessary teaching aids to make the students successful. In the article U.S. Education: Still Separate and Unequal, the author says Black students have a higher percentage of school dropouts from high school than White students (Cook). This is because most Black students are less engaged in schools than White students.
