As an RA I was always told that it is like being in a fish bowl. When I am in the halls and on campus I am expected to act a certain way because my residents will be watching me as an example. When I was on duty I was expected to act a certain way and do my role as a resident assistant like rounds, bulletin boards, writing people up, and taking care of students ' issues. Outside of a resident hall or campus setting these roles would not make sense. Like it would not make sense for me to write up my family for being loud during quiet hours, because it is a different social setting. Being a resident assistant was a script of mine, or social role I was playing, it would not have made sense to ask if while I was a resident assistant if that is what I really was. This person may have a very pale skin tone, green eyes and straight hair. If this person dresses a certain way and lives in a predominantly white neighborhood and people do not know whom their father is, they could pass as a white person. It could be reversed as well, you can have a white person who tans their skin, perms their hair, with brown eyes and dark hair living in a predominantly black neighborhood and if no one knows who their parents are they could pass as black, because they fit the racial script. Even if both people are not trying to pass as a certain race, like the mixed person could not be hiding they are mixed and the white person can not be hiding they are white, but society will disconnect and put a label on the person based off of their appearance and racial script they mostly fit into.
