Social Inequality: A Case Study

Both experiences are different, and I was able to learn something about both of them. In particular, I witnessed social equality and inequality as a theme in both of the places I went to. According to Grant and Sleeter (as cited in Banks & Banks, 2012), race and social class are one of the ways to categories people in society. With this in mind, both of the cultural plues that I went to had these to two categories. For example, at H Mart most of the society consisted in race. The reason can be that it is an Asian market. Yet, there was still diversity in the market, this is a reason how it limited my perspective of an Asian market. In contrast to H Mart, Café Beau Soleil had more of a social class construct. Even though there is a similarity between each place having a society there was some social differences. In regards to social equality both experiences were good, there wasn’t any issues of acceptance or negative experiences, there is still connections between how society views one. In H Mart, there is no social class awareness, since everyone needs to buy groceries. However, at Café Beau Soleil it is different because it isn’t a place where everyone can go. There is a sense of social inequality, because it is a high-end café. This is one connection that I noticed when I went to the café and reflected both experiences. With this intent, I learned from the two cultural experiences to have a human relations approach to any place I go. What human relations approach does is to give positive feelings and acceptance among people (Banks & Banks, 2012, p.47). From the connection of both places it is easier to be accepting of the society I encounter, since it will gradually create an equal
