POST #2 Watching Carlos lecture on recitatif, this is an informative and gives us a wider view of how racism goes about and how we are all participants in it no matter what we perceive ourselves to be. He starts by giving us two names and ask us to pick which race the two belong too. And he gives you a few seconds to make your judgment. He then says, if you made a judgement or even thought about who belongs to what race, its shows you identify with race. I will agree with him on that, because if you don’t identify with race, you should not think or make a judgment.…
Racism and Violence in the United States The United States has always been a country that is culturally diverse. Regardless of the diversity the U.S has discriminated groups of people that are not recognized as “White”. Since the establishment of the U.S. there has been discrimination of minorities.…
White supremacy was created based on the belief that white people are more superior people of color and for this reason, the while people believe that they are supposed to be dominate race amongst the other races. Though started a couple of centuries ago, this notion continues to dominate today. Because of white supremacy, the white people are now believed to be better and more powerful than people of color, especially the blacks. However, regardless of the dominance of this concept in different cases, the origin of white supremacy remains unknown to many people. Among other arguments surrounding the origin of white supremacy, is that it developed as a means of maintaining ruling class domination.…
Teaching children about race and diversity is an important and necessary life lesson not only because it molds the minds of future generations but because talking about race with children can help them see beyond race and the race of other children just as it can with children of different genders. Children can recognize the differences between themselves and another individual of a different race regardless if the conversation of race is present in their home. Children who are spoken to about race are more likely to see past the superficial differences between themselves and children of other races and seek more meaningful relationships based upon common interest rather than visual similarity. Discussions regarding race are an inevitability…
Carney is a doctoral student of sociology at the University of California, Santa Barbara. However, her interests focus more towards the notion of race, gender and migration. The author discuss how race plays a role in who is more prone to injustice, violence and brutality. The author argues that white victimization is more likely to result in a death sentence than black victimization. The article will be helpful for my research because it highlights the influence race has in the criminal justice system and that it is not a racially neutral process.…
It’s important to study whiteness because its plays a major impact on how this world is operating and how it’s segregated. To study whiteness allows us to acknowledge the abuse of power the white race has created by racial hierarchy within society. In the article “Representations of Whiteness In Black Imagination” by Bell Hooks she explains, “A system of domination, imperialism, colonialism, and racism actively coerce black folks to internalize negative perceptions of blackness, to be self hating ” (p.19). The false history and lacks of knowledge about people of color can lead to self-hating when society makes people believe that being white is better. White people set the standard of humanity, which they are known to succeed, while others fail.…
Racism is the belief that belonging to a particular race means a person has inherent characteristics that one deemed either superior or inferior. Based on racist belief, prejudice and discrimination are still alive today, though important figures as Martin L. King Jr. lead the movements to end this and enact anti-segregation laws. These ideas are being transmitted to younger generations despite the progress that has been made. The minorities and people who are victimized by this injustice find it often difficult to focus on the task at hand and the goals they set out for. When victimized, people often respond in two ways: acting out in a violent manner, or fighting against others.…

Why discuss race and racial ideology? Race and racial ideology are important concepts to learn and understand. We unknowingly make rushed judgments about other individuals and groups without a decent understanding of these concepts. Some of those judgments are harmless and have little to no effect on individuals or groups. While other rushed, judgments can have negative attitudes and feelings toward individuals or groups.…
The oppression that is cast upon the black community is the result of racism. Racism has been around since the time that two different races encountered one another. Being that both, oppression and racism, have been a problem for hundreds of years, they cannot be expected to go away in the matter of half of a century. In order for racism and black oppression to be nonexistent, children will have to be taught that they are equal no matter the color of their skin. It is not morally right for someone to be oppressed because they were born a certain skin tone.…
Through examination of DNA tests, researchers have possessed the capacity to proclaim that race is not organically developed because of the likenesses between human qualities. By and by, in all actuality, individuals still accentuated on natural viewpoints, for example, skin shading, or hair composition to order others into diverse races. This thusly, precluded the genuine personality from claiming race, which it is socially developed. Ethnicity, by definition is likewise socially built, thusly it enormously take after race. There is no genuine clear line to particular the two.…
I took the race IAT, and the result that I have a moderate automatic preference for White people over Black people. From this test, I learn that I might have a racist tendency toward African Americans over European Americans. This might not be a surprise because all human beings have some kind stereotype or racist tendency toward a particularly group of race or culture. Racism exists for many racial and ethnic groups. Especially for me, I resided in a neighborhood that consists of mix races of Africans American and Europeans Americans.…

Devin, WELL SAID! I could not agree more. Poor treatment of others, regardless of skin color, household composition, income statistics, etc. makes me uncomfortable. When the word “racism” is mentioned, most people think of the life of slaves. In our world, racism has developed into a concept much more in-depth.…
