It seems to be all great and wonderful because it means you are part of the majority and you have the best chance of being important and fitting in. Avakian says (2003) “White privilege can exist without white people’s conscious knowledge of its presence and it helps to maintain the racial hierarchy in this country.” However, white privilege also can cause arrogance and the inability to accept others that are not a part of the dominant majority. It has led me into a personal struggle to be accepting of others because of my past experiences in a very white community, I never had to learn or interact with people of other cultures. This idea of not interacting with other cultures is very similar to the video Racial segregation in American schools (2014), where the African American girl being interviewed mentions that she never had a white classmate, and is continuing her education at an all-black college. Clearly, the lack of diversity is something that can have a negative effect on a student, and it shapes their views, and beliefs of others. I never had to think about any other race or worry about being accepting because I never had to deal with anyone other than someone who was white. This hurt me in the long run when making the transition from high school to
