Race is a term used to describe a group or a cluster of people who are of the same color or kind. The term race derived from slavery. Race is defined by populations that differ genetically. In today’s society race is non –existent. Individuals may appear to be of a same race but differ in their hereditary background. In the 1600’s colonists had established servitude that included Europeans and Africans. Shortly after the Bacon Rebellion the status of Africans changed and they had permanently been held to slavery. By 18th century Africans were viewed in a negative light. Africans made great farmers and cattle breeders. Many colonists found it impossible to survive without Africans taking care of the foundation such as labor which is one of the reasons they were held in bondage. Unlike other minorities who had a few rights Africans had noun. They were considered property and had as much value as a kitchen table. Whites are known as the majority but according to Rinku Sen “, the majority of American babies are not white, it should put to rest use of the term “minorities” as a reference to America’s black, Hispanics , Asian’s and also Native American residents. “Yet we still use this inappropriate term when referring to these selected races. Being a citizen of America I have been exposed to many ideas and differences when it comes to cultures and customs. We as a nation have evolved a great deal. Many people are not ready to face the reality and the fact at hand. There is little to no such thing as race anymore. According to Jeffery Long “There is no individual can represent every individual in a whole group.” In other words, we are all diverse human beings and we come from different ethnicities not
