The danger lies in stereotypes that are integrated into messages used to sell products, also known as propaganda. Advertising, however is a vital component to any company’s survival. The main goal for any corporation is to convince the audience to buy their product due to the intense competition in the market. The continuation of racial and ethnic stereotypes by the media is an unending and real wonder that can be seen in children's entertainment television shows and movies around the world. The problematic factor is that there is clearly a bombardment of racial and ethnic scripts presented to children at an early age, when it is difficult to be socially critical of these stereotypes. Racial stereotypes, such as, images of a young Black-American boy speaking "street talk" who has a niche for dancing hip-hop well, or an Asian-American toddler girl with slanted eyes wearing a traditional kimono is shown in a cartoon, flood children's learning process during their early years. Child psychology provides several different theories that can help to assess the learning schemes of racial and ethnic stereotypes. Correspondingly, the negative perceptions/judgements of the targeted ethnic groups result in them being viewed negatively and discriminated when they are stereotyped. Stereotyping is therefore used to confirm the beliefs of a social group (ethnic group). To alleviate discrimination, racial/ethnic prejudice must be eliminated. Negative stereotypes arise out of an ethnocentric view of the world; one’s own group is the center of everything and all other groups are rated in reference to it. Negative stereotypes are prejudicial judgments that assign negative qualities to other groups. Repeated exposure to negative stereotypes causes those who are being stereotyped to internalize the stereotypes. This damages character by causing low self-esteem, low expectations, low motivation, self-doubt, etc. And in turn this damage contributes to a host of bad outcomes, such as high unemployment, poor marriage success, low educational achievement, and criminality.
