Ra Reflection

Throughout my life, I have loved helping people and being a part of something greater than myself. To be honest going into my first year of being a RA I expected extraverted students that would go to the events and community would happen naturally. That was not the case for my residents this year but I worked so hard to cater to their needs and create our own unique community. I learned a lot about myself and how to connect with residents with different perspectives of my own. Through the process of one on ones, I listened to each resident and asked what they wanted out of their experience in the residence halls. Although it may have been different from what I may have wanted, I was still able to take their feedback to create events that interested …show more content…
Keeping an open mind to the new year is crucial in order to bond with your staff that may include some returning RAs and some new hires. Even though as a returning you have experience with certain situations this does not mean that you have all of the answers. Returning RAs should set the example of three crucial things to being a successful Ra. This includes enthusiasm, time management and approachability. RAs should be exuberant and easy-going. This makes it enjoyable for the residents because they get to see an example or role model. I feel that enthusiasm is contagious and it is a positive quality that will lead towards great things such as; floor and community bonding, breaking out of comfort zones and getting involved. Another important quality for a successful RA is time management. It is important to do this job in an effective and productive way such as always putting effort into activities regarding the residence halls, as well as balancing your life as a student. Organization goes hand in hand with this trait. The last quality is approachability. Being a RA you must be able to talk to a variety of people and they should feel comfortable talking to you. Being kind and compassionate with the residents and the staff enhances the overall experience of the community. Truly listening and caring for the residents is also crucial because to me it is important to connect with the residents and make friends. These are just three qualities, but they make a well-rounded

Since my second semester at UT, I have devoted 15 hours a week to volunteering as a Young Life leader. Every week I help run a club meeting for dozens of high school kids, manage a planning meeting with my teammates, and lead a small group for sophomore girls. I spend hours at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School watching games and performances, and simply getting to know these young adults. Through investing this time to build relationships as a mentor and role model, I strove to show these girls that they are significant, noticed and valued. Volunteering as a Young Life leader has taught me invaluable lessons in building relationships, caring for others, and working with a team that will help me to be a more supportive and productive physician…

My responsibility for this workshop was to proceed with a handover of a patient to an intern (played by Dr. Michael Adamson). This was a particularly disasterous session. My performance was not only unfit within the scope of academic criteria, but was clearly short of acceptable for a real-world SBAR. During the reading of the scenario I was daunted by the task of having to SBAR report a patient to admission at a hostpital, based on information I was reading for the first time; my practice with the hand-over system was minimal prior to the session.…

I anticipate my lifestyle changing a small bit, if I was to become a Residential Assistant. Although the position of being an RA comes before any other commitments, I feel that it will still be possible to balance my social life and continually see my friends. The only main change I foresee is that I will have to watch how I act and what I say. I need to set an example and be a role model. People cannot do that if they act irresponsibly and negatively with their friends or residents.…

Dear Resident Advisor Selection Committee,I have been interested in becoming an RA since I started at Cal Poly earlier this academic year. My interest further increased when I met my current RA, Victoria Duncan. She has always been friendly, enthusiastic, and helpful. She made me feel comfortable in the dorm room experience right from the beginning. I knew that I wanted to be that friendly, welcoming face to the future students of Cal Poly.…

At Xavier University we believe in the “All for One and One for All” philosophy; showing that camaraderie and equality among all are still possible. One way Xavier lives up to its support for students is through the one-year long Smooth Transition mentoring program. I served as a smooth transition mentor to three incoming first-year students during the 2016-2017 academic year. In order to ensure that they have a successful first year at Xavier, I informed them about the resources Xavier University provides, including the writing center, mathematics lab, tutoring services, Ohio link, and much more. I also advised them to make good decisions and form relationships with people who would motivate them to succeed.…

My interest in being a resident advisor (“RA”) stems from my desire to work intimately, candidly, and meaningfully with other people. My most rewarding relationships have all been built upon some mutually meaningful connection, whether it arises from experiencing grueling football practices together, sharing a common set of interests with someone, or working with others to finish a challenging project. I see the RA position as a way to maximize my likelihood of making these meaningful connections with other individuals, those individuals, in this case, being my future residents and fellow RAs. However, I am not applying to this position for the sole purpose of making friends, and I appreciate that the role of the RA is not always that of a friend. Even so, enhancing the lives of other individuals, with or without a corresponding friendship, is sufficiently fulfilling in and of itself.…

This email is to serve as my letter of intent to apply for the Chief Residency for the year 2017-2018. I believe that my training at Weiss has been a good opportunity to nurture my medical knowledge and skills. One of the best feelings in the world is giving back and educating the community. I’ve spent over 2,000 hours of community service helping schools and non-profits. Through this experience, I’ve become familiar with advocating for service projects and educating my peers on amazing opportunities. Through AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC), I was a recruiter. As a recruiter, I had the opportunity to visit several high schools and colleges around the country advocating for the program, and all the good it does for the community.…

A leader, according to John C. Maxwell is someone who “knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way. As I look back on my own life, I see how my leadership skills have grown and how far I need to go to be a successful leader. Determined, driven, and goal- oriented, are just some of my many characteristics as a leader. Passiveness, stress, and worrying are my weakest point in my life. Demonstrating these point can be easily shown in this year’s FBLA community server project and my role as FBLA secretary.…

They are welcoming and kind human beings who are ready to help their residences, or any members of the Suffolk community, at any point of time. Personally, I aspire to become a Resident Assistant for multiple reasons. The first being that I thoroughly enjoy being friendly and kind. Being nice to people is a characteristic that is just instilled within me, which I believe is a good quality to possess while obtaining this position.…

The Dream of the Rood The Dream of the Rood is an Old English, allegorical retelling of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ from a different point of view. Many seem to think this poem is only told from the point of view of the cross that Jesus was crucified on, but an additional interpretation is that this story is told seemingly through the point of view of a normal man, but in all actuality it is the retelling of the vision that Jesus had before he was arrested and his acceptance of his duty to be sacrificed for the forgiveness of sinners. There are three sections of The Dream of the Rood.…
