Ra Reflection

Improved Essays
Throughout high school, I had the opportunity to take on leadership roles to help strengthen my community by providing students with a safe, inclusive, and satisfying environment to learn in. As an RA, I would be able to provide the same environment for my residents to help them reach personal growth. I want to become the person that my residents feel comfortable approaching whenever they are in need of resources, advice or just a person to vent to about any situation no matter how big or small they may feel the situation is. As an RA, I would make it my mission to have my residents feel relieved and welcomed every time they enter their floor. I’ve been placed in various situations where I was able to give comfort and hope to those in my community

When you are a RA, that can be translated into the residents being able to do whatever they want. When you are a RA, there needs to be a good balance. You should be able to be liked while still showing that you are serious about your position and will lay down the law when it is…

My responsibility for this workshop was to proceed with a handover of a patient to an intern (played by Dr. Michael Adamson). This was a particularly disasterous session. My performance was not only unfit within the scope of academic criteria, but was clearly short of acceptable for a real-world SBAR. During the reading of the scenario I was daunted by the task of having to SBAR report a patient to admission at a hostpital, based on information I was reading for the first time; my practice with the hand-over system was minimal prior to the session.…

I believe the key responsibility for a Residential Assistant is to build an effective community. To create a positive and productive community, residential assistants should be open, disciplined, and compassionate. Living in a society that is comprised of people from different cultural and social backgrounds, it is important for a RA to emphasize an open environment. An open environment will allow residents to feel secure and comfortable to express themselves, and it will protect individualities of each student.…

I am attracted to Regis College because of its powerful mission, unique curriculum and desirable location. As a future nurse practitioner it is of the utmost importance to me that I attend an institution that challenges its students, consists of a diverse community, and has a successful, thorough curriculum. My aim is to eventually work as a primary care nurse practitioner in an underserved community. I know that Regis College encompasses the resources that will allow me to reach my goal and more, and for these reasons I would be honored to attend the institution as an Accelerated Master of Science in Nursing student. Regis College’s mission perfectly aligns with my career goals.…

RC1 Reaction Comment Lorrie Thomas, The first day of class was so informative and I experienced emotions from surprise, interest, fear, humor, sadness, etc., as explained in this reaction comment. One point of discussion, which surprised me, was how much I was unaware of the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) mission. I have said for the past 2 years that I would like to work for DHS.…

I anticipate my lifestyle changing a small bit, if I was to become a Residential Assistant. Although the position of being an RA comes before any other commitments, I feel that it will still be possible to balance my social life and continually see my friends. The only main change I foresee is that I will have to watch how I act and what I say. I need to set an example and be a role model. People cannot do that if they act irresponsibly and negatively with their friends or residents.…

Four more students on Northwest’s campus are now officially trained in bystander intervention following last Wednesday’s Green Dot Bystander Certification training. Northwest Green Dot Coordinator Danielle Koonce describes Green Dot as the University’s violence prevention initiative or strategy that is focused on how bystanders can intervene to stop or interrupt violence. September 20 marked the first of three certification courses to be held during the fall semester and was hosted by Koonce, with the help of University Wellness Center Counselor Courtney Koch. Both are members of Northwest’s Green Dot Team. Koonce says that the program was launched in the spring of 2016 at the University and about 150 students have been certified since.…

My interest in being a resident advisor (“RA”) stems from my desire to work intimately, candidly, and meaningfully with other people. My most rewarding relationships have all been built upon some mutually meaningful connection, whether it arises from experiencing grueling football practices together, sharing a common set of interests with someone, or working with others to finish a challenging project. I see the RA position as a way to maximize my likelihood of making these meaningful connections with other individuals, those individuals, in this case, being my future residents and fellow RAs. However, I am not applying to this position for the sole purpose of making friends, and I appreciate that the role of the RA is not always that of a friend. Even so, enhancing the lives of other individuals, with or without a corresponding friendship, is sufficiently fulfilling in and of itself.…

A leader, according to John C. Maxwell is someone who “knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way. As I look back on my own life, I see how my leadership skills have grown and how far I need to go to be a successful leader. Determined, driven, and goal- oriented, are just some of my many characteristics as a leader. Passiveness, stress, and worrying are my weakest point in my life. Demonstrating these point can be easily shown in this year’s FBLA community server project and my role as FBLA secretary.…

Sarah Jessica Parker, an American actress, once said, "I developed a really strong work ethic, and I don't take anything for granted". I feel the same thing applies to me 100%. I tend to use my stress to fuel my drive to get things done, on time, and right. However, I am also human and know where I need assistance. From working hard at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC's) nursing program to serving my residents as a certified nurse's assistant at a retirement home, I feel I am an exceptional fit for the DMACC Foundation Scholarship.…

Over the course of studying E214 I have thought greatly about my own practice working as an HLTA in a mainstream primary school, where I mainly work with children that experience barriers to learning. These barriers are due to the children having special educational needs or due to having English as an additional language. I now question whether the children I work with are part of a system that has created othering and if through them being othered they included as fully as possible or are they still subject to exclusion through the barriers they experience when accessing the national curriculum or through their progress not being as high as expected by society. (online unit 17) The focus of education appears to be about the grades and progress…

The course AFAS 160 D1 is my first online class, and until now I still felt lucky to choose this class as one of my general education classes, because it gave me a great opportunity and an eye-opening experience about learning the African American Culture which I have never learned before and also gave me a chance to learn online. Describing this course to someone else, I would say this class is interesting and if you want to learn this class well, you need to prepare the Voice Thread and read the book carefully. To be honest, making videos on Voice Thread gave me a unique experience. I still remembered the first time I made a video on Voice Thread how nervous I was, I was afraid to have different ideas with other students and worried if they disagreed with me what should I do?…

Resident Assistants are one of the first friendly faces students meet when they move in on campus. They are welcoming and kind human beings who are ready to help their residences, or any members of the Suffolk community, at any point of time. Personally, I aspire to become a Resident Assistant for multiple reasons. The first being that I thoroughly enjoy being friendly and kind. Being nice to people is a characteristic that is just instilled within me, which I believe is a good quality to possess while obtaining this position.…
