However, I had a situation where I accompanied my client to the movie theater for a play date. The parent offered first to pay for my movie ticket as well as any concessions I wanted during the time. In a finesse manner I confidently replied that although I appreciate the offer and respect that they appreciate me enough to think to pay for me that I have to decline. One thing I loved about the the organization I am employed with is that prior to any services rendered the parents are informed of policy that prohibits their employees should not be giving gifts at any time and if this rule is broken services can be stopped due to the fact that it is a violation of their code of ethics.
