My observation took place on weekday morning at a local R town center, a very versatile and popular setting known for being a commonplace where friends hang out and similar to an outdoor mall where businesses profit. Every time I went there to spend time with my friends, I would never pay much attention to the other events going on around me so this time, I chose to focus on just that, what was everyone else was doing at town center.
My limited analysis included the categorization and association of the type of people in the setting with where they were and what they did. I successfully noticed and identified the patterns of three groups of people at R town center: the families or caretakers with children, the solo people …show more content…
I conducted my research on a Wednesday morning, around 10 am, which was not an optimal time, since most people were either already at work, still in bed, or just at home. My field notes were mostly taken based on descriptive inference because I didn’t interact with any of my subjects to try and clarify the purpose of certain behaviors/actions that I couldn’t understand. For instance, I noticed two groups of people, “an old couple and two women,” take pictures from the exact same location and angle at the key of town center, but at different times. Confused to whether this was merely a coincidence, all I could do was take note of this peculiar event, but afterwards, I was never able to figure it out by just pondering through it alone. Also, R plaza is a relatively large area, but my scope of research was biasedly focused on just the open region at the center, where, from pre-existing knowledge of this place, people are generally most concentrated in. This unintentional spotlight on that area may have resulted from the influence of media. In the news, we see significantly less broadcasts in isolated regions with minimal population. Most news are in the populated cities, like Baltimore during the 2015 Baltimore riots. Another issue was that I overlooked the workers, who were moving a small concession stand. This would be an example of subjective bias because I unconsciously diminished the value of their role in my report because they weren’t present there for their
