Who doesn’t like to read about things that go bump in the night? Ventriloquist dummies that speak, nightly neighborhood murders, and haunted houses are not just for Halloween. A connoisseur of chillers and thrillers, this author is sure to give you goosebumps while reading any of his novels. The tales are just scary enough to make you think twice about turning out the lights but not so terrifying that you can’t sleep at night making these reads perfect for children and teens.

According to one biography, “R.L. Stine began writing the Fear Street series in 1989. This series became the bestselling series for young adults in history, with more than 100 books” ("R. L. Stine Facts."). The Fear Street series, while not quite as popular as Goosebumps turned out to be, is beginning to make a huge come back. Stine did an interview with Time Magazine informing readers that he stopped writing for the series because he, “ran out of stories” (Gibson). This was saddening for his devoted fans who were still craving more of the thrilling tales. However, in 2015 a new addition was published, Party Games, in response to what Stine felt was a new wave of demand for horror novels (Gibson). When asked why horror genre popularity was increasing again Stine replied, “I always think that in scary times horror becomes popular. I think it’s just a way that people [deal] with anxiety about the real world.” …show more content…
Stine truly lives a wild life. He enjoys watching classic movies, reading, and swimming ("R. L. Stine." Contemporary). The author stated in an interview with Buzzfeed that his favorite thing to do in New York is “just walking around” ("19 Facts Every Book Lover Should Know About R.L. Stine."). He even addressed getting back to his humorous roots in a tweet with a photo saying, “My own late-night comedy show at UCB in NYC. Will I see you there?” (Stine). Stine has also tweeted about chores and casual everyday tasks that he faces in a to-do list style like this one, “Wednesday to-do list: 1. Buy pudding. 2. Rake the living room. 3. Eliminate human suffering in the world. 4. Deal with hangnail.”
