We all are familiar with the success of R&B girl group, Destiny’s Child. Often compared to her close friend and former group mate, Beyonce, as a solo artist, Kelly Rowland’s voice is one that has been overlooked and underestimated. Her debuted single, “Dilemma”, spent two months at the top of the charts. Her second album peaked at number 6 in the top 10 but didn’t produce any major hits for the U.S. Shortly after, Kelly split from Matthew Knowles and Columbia Records. She later signed with Universal Motown Records. Kelly had garnered chart success with her singles on the Europe charts. Her fifth album was her third top ten album and featured an emotional, “Dirty Laundry” which speaks of her envy towards Beyonce’s success and the domestic abuse from a past relationship. Formally known as Amerie, is a Grammy-nominated singer and song writer. Amerie’s debut single “Why Don’t We Fall In Love” reached R&B’s Top 20. Her first two albums charted well and gained her popularity. Even so, In 2007, Ameriie issues with her label impacted her music career and the release of her third album. Release dates were delayed, singles received little promotion and by 2008, she’d been dropped from the label. She shortly after signed a deal through Def Jam where she’d be able to have more control over the release of her music. Her last album released in 2010, debuted at 46 on the billboard 200. The following year, Amerie changed her stage name to Ameriie to reflect her vibes.
