A. The World on the Turtles back
B. Iroquois
C. “But the creatures of the sea came to her and said they would try and help her and ask what they could do” (page 40). This quote shows personification because in the real world animals don’t talk to humans. “In the beginning there was no world, no land, no creatures of the kind that are around us now, and there were no men. But there was a great ocean which occupied space as far as anyone could see” (page 38). This passage describes what the Sky-World was like and what was below it. It describes where majority of the story takes place.
D. “Within the girl’s body, the twins began to argue and quarrel with one another” (page 41) …show more content…
Upon the Burning of Our House/ To My Dear Loving Husband
B. Anne Bradstreet
C. “No candle ‘ere shall shine in Thee…” (Page 119 line 33). This quote is showing imagery because it is depicting the brightness of a candle in the dark and that it is too dark for the candle to shine. Another literary device is “And to my God my heart did cry…” (Page 118; line 8). This quote shows personification because her heart is not actually crying she is just expressing that she is heartbroken and hurt that her house in burnt to ash. “Then while we live, in love let's so persevere That when we live no more, we may live ever” (Lines 11-12)
D. A price so vast as is unknown Yet by His gift is made thine own; There’s wealth enough, I need no more, farewell my store. The world no longer let me love, my hope and treasure lies about” (page 119 lines 49-54). Although she knows God burnt down her house and everything she ever loved but he still knows that God loves her and she knows that everything we be waiting for her in heaven.
“Here stood the trunk and there in that chest, there lay that store I counted best. My pleasant things in ashes lie, and them behold no more shall I. Under thy roof no guest shall sit, Nor at thy table eat a bit” (page 119 lines 25-30). She is upset that here stuff is destroyed by God but she still loves and accepts …show more content…
Sinners in the Hands of an angry God
B. Jonathan Edwards
C. “the pit is prepared, the fire is made ready, the furnace is now hot, ready to receive them; the flames do now rage and glow” (lines 14-16). This quote paints an image in the reader’s mind of what hell is like and that you are walking on thin ice and you can fall at any moment and be trapped in the pit of Hell. “The glittering sword is whet, and held over them, and the pit hath opened its mouth under them...” (Line 17). Jonathan Edwards is showing personification because he is depicting Hell as some sort of beast with his mouth wide open.
D. “Thus all you that never passed under a great change of heart, by the mighty power of the Spirit of God upon your souls; all you that were never born again ...” (Line 42). This passage is important because it’s saying God has already had a change in heart and if you don’t take advantage of that you are going to be banished into Hell forever. Edwards is saying you can save yourself by going to church and getting baptized.
“...you are ten thousand times more abominable in his eyes, than the most hateful venomous serpent is in ours” (Line 54). Basically what Edwards is trying to say you are worse than the ugliest repulsive snake in his eyes. “You have offended him infinitely more than ever a stubborn rebel did his prince” (Line 56). You can’t redeem yourself after you have already had your chance
