Before the pearl was found, it was symbolized as a great, wealthy, and amazing item to find and was believed to give hope and luck. Once Kino found the pearl he felt hope in becoming rich and thought about all the goods he could buy, who he could help, things to achieve, situations that were not possible for him. Kino felt triumphant. “Juana caught her breath and moaned a little. And to Kino the secret melody of the maybe pearl broke clear and beautiful, rich, warm, and lovely, glowing, and gloating, and triumphant” (19). When introduced to a new fortune, it can be easy to get caught up with the joy of treasure that has been brought up on.
