It seems by the end of the novel, Jake and Brett are the only ones who seem to have come to terms with who they are and who they have become. Especially Brett, she always knew she was a bitch, but she never really noticed it until the end with Romero “I’m thirty-four, you know. I’m not going to be one of those bitches that ruins children” (247). She sent Romero away for her own benefit and I think that’s the Brett that Jake and Mike knew personally. Cohn and Romero didn’t know Brett like Jake and Mike did, and that’s growing up for Brett.…

Unfortunately, all of that changes when she goes on a court ordered visit to live with her biological but drug addicted father, where Kristina turns into Bree, who is absolutely fearless. With the help of a boy, Bree is given her first whiff of methamphetamine, a dangerous drug known as crank, which she uses to escape reality and soon gets hooked. Ellen Hopkins’ novel Crank is anything but a normal story of a teenage girl. If readers can avoid falling into the trap of what the writer is saying, they can take a closer look at this novel and notice that the protagonist is making these bad choices due to past and current events, and not just for the fun…

Having been concerned by these events, Sabinus, when he sees Ambiorix in the distance encouraging his men, sends his interpreter to him, Pompey, to say that he will spare him and his soldiers. When talked to he replies, "If Sabinus wishes to discuss with Ambiorix, it is permitted and he hopes what relates to the safety of the soldiers can be had from the people; and that to him no injury will be done, and he gives his faith to that effect." He consults with Cotta who had been wounded, whether it would appear correct to go from battle and confer with Ambiorix; he hoped to be able to triumph respecting his own safety and the soldiers. Cotta says he will not go to an armed enemy, and in that he stands firm.…

Introduction and Quote Isaac Singer once said “When you betray somebody else, you also betray yourself.” Isaac’s theory on betrayal, shows that betrayal is linked to guilt. By “betray[ing] yourself,” you are submerging yourself into the monster of guilt. When you betray someone, it might seem like a good idea in the moment, but overtime you betray yourself. The built up feelings become overwhelming and you end up punishing yourself even more than you punished the victim.…

I am actually really impressed that Ron said this, because it is wise and it’s the absolute truth and that’s the reason I really like this quote. It shows that no matter how much money you have or how much money you spend on a certain item, not a single person can look inside another person’s heart and see or understand their spiritual condition. And that just shows that there is no amount of money that can buy someone’s salvation because earning salvation is priceless and that’s a personal decision that cannot be influenced by any amount of money. And another reason why I like this quote is because it shows growth in Ron’s spiritual life. This quote marked the beginning of a wonderful, yet frightening journey for Ron, because it tested his…

Mussolini 's speech was written to introduce his desires as the Premier of Italy and also to portray himself as a strong, charismatic leader that would lift Italy from troubled times. It is interesting that he is not focussed that much on the policies that he will launch, but instead outlining rather broad principles. He also reflects on the actions he has not undertaken since his nomination of the Premier in October 1922. This essay will argue that this speech shows Mussolini in a weak position of power and eventually wanted to overthrow democracy in Italy because of the language he uses, his attitudes to violence and attitudes to democracy.…

Masculinity in The Kite Runner Gender roles have been the perforated lines within our society for centuries, holding us together while simultaneously possessing the ability to tear us apart. We’ve had these ideas of what it means to be masculine and feminine so engrained into our society for such a long period of time that even as we enter a much more progressive era they still seep into the way we raise our children. Traditionally, masculinity can be seen as a combination of three common attributes: strength, honor, and action. Strength is generally referring to emotional toughness and independence, honor to loyalty and generosity, and action to competitiveness and risk-taking.…
