A common person could not have taken what happened to Louie. They would have gave up and told the Japanese important information, they also would have gave in to the bird. Louie was uncommon Louie started out as a troublemaker, at the time when people thought he would go to jail, his brother got him into track. His brother trained him and next thing he knows his is breaking records and racing in the Olympics. Louie joins the air force in the late 1930’s and then Pearl Harbor is attacked. He then is a bombardier on a bomber and is involved in many important air attacks. Then he goes on a mission and his plane crashes and he and two others (one dies halfway through) survive on a raft for a long time and they drifted 2,000 miles. Next Louie …show more content…
A second trait that defines Louie is courageous. Louie does things that he knows he will get beat for but does them anyways to make sure his country is safe. A quote that shows courage in Louie is “They decided to make a run for it, commandeer a plane, and get out of Japan.”(168) This shows courage because he thought of a plan of escape knowing that if they failed they would probably be killed. A second quote that shows courage is “Louie was asked who would win the war. “America”.”(145) The sailors tackled the captives. A fist connected with Louie’s nose, and he felt a crunch”. This quote shows that he was asked a question and he knew he would get beat if he answered the way he did, and he answered that way anyway, then he put his nose back together after it was broken. Finally, the quote “How do you work it? You twist two knobs. The officers knew he was lying so they sent him back to his cell with no food”.(141) This quote shows courage because even though he was starving and he was so close to getting food he still lied so that the Japanese couldn’t use the American planes against the Americans. Louie used courage to show that he wasn’t afraid of the Japanese and that he wasn’t going to give in and he is going to not tell the Japanese any information that may help them attack the
