A man comes into the Happy House and Lakshmi tries to get him. Shilpa pushes her aside and walks him into her room. She trusted Mumtaz when she told her if she makes enough money she will be able to pay off her debt and return home. Lakshmi had tunnel vision when she was told she could work off her family’s debt. The hope that Lakshmi had to return home made her naïve enough to trust the women who put her in that home. In Lakshmi’s head she was paying for all of her family’s expenses and soon would be able to return home, not once did she think that Mumtaz could be using her. On a broader scale this would have been an issue because if Mumtaz told Lakshmi a vast amount of lies about her family Lakshmi would expect that to be true.
