Quitters Quit Research Paper

Decent Essays
Write carelessly. Write now.
In creativity, thinking wrong is right. But know which mistakes to keep.
Rest, not quit.
Get out of your comfort zone. It’s crowded there.
Discover something new. Don’t stop looking.
Prioritize simple acts and do them religiously.
Inspiration is for amateurs. Establish a process and just do it.
No matter what, start small, then gradually pick up the pace and do it consistently. Things will grow out of the activity itself.
Believe in the senile genius. Have him look over your work and most importantly, let him be the one who expects something from you.
Care. Make sure your newly formed habits are actually important to you.
There are only two kinds of people in the world -- the winner and the quitter. Quitters quit.

    Merton's Quitter Summary

I found it interesting how chapter 7 mentions, "Americans are admonished "not to be a quitter" and in the american culture "there is no such thing as fail" (Chapter 7, pg. 81). Chapter 7 also mentions how, "the cultural manifesto is clear: one must not quit, must not cease striving, must not lessen his goals, for "not failure, but low aim, is crime" (Chapter 7, pg. 81). If understanding this correctly, I'm not sure I am. I believe that Merton is saying that within a society there are certain goals that are acceptable and should be met, if for some reason these goals are not met...…

Thousands of people revile Offit publicly at rallies, on Web sites, and in books. I think last minute program cancellations are a major concern. It is important for individuals to recognize the benefits of the programs and to engage in the activities in order to increase their interpersonal relationships. Since transportation is provided, all clients should have easy access to the programs and there should not be cancellations unless it is due to a medical reason or family issue. I think reasons behind last minute cancellations should be further discussed and looked into in order to prevent it from happening more in the future.…

Well next time you are there, take a second to look a little closer at the amount of calories in the supposedly “healthier” apple juice compared to Coca-Cola. Although many Americans believe that juices are healthier for their body’s versus soda, consumers should reconsider because most juices contain just as much sugar, calories, and artificial flavors as soft drinks. How many times in your life have you been sitting down under a tree doing nothing but thinking, bored out of your mind? How many times has that led to great ideas that you never would have thought of if at that moment you were stuck in the busyness and toil of life? Some of the best things in life can happen when doing what most would call nothing (think about Isaac Newton). Inactivity serves a purpose in life because it promotes creative thinking, inspires you to do new things, and gives you rest from the busyness of life.
