Let’s not kid ourselves. It isn’t cigarettes or alcohol that are the most addictive substances in our culture. No, the real culprit is soda. Carbonated, often caffeinated, sugary soda. It is everywhere and you can drink it with almost anything (including cigarettes and alcohol). Quitting soda is often as hard, if not harder, than quitting smoking.
So, let’s say you have decided to finally quit drinking soda. Let’s say you have finally had enough and you want to begin a life that is ruled by healthier choices. It has high levels of sugar which can cause our body to release dopamine into the bloodstream, causing a mild euphoric feeling. It also, often, contains caffeine which can elevate energy levels to a high degree. These are strong drugs to wean yourself off of. So, the first thing you can expect when you quit drinking soda is that you will desperately want to keep drinking soda. Your body will not understand why its daily cocktail of sugar and caffeine have disappeared, and intense cravings will result. Fight them! Exercise to increase energy and dopamine levels naturally. Put aside time the first week to get extra sleep so that the fatigue caused by sagging energy levels can be compensated. Just don’t give into the cravings. It will be hard, but you can do it.

Soda can have a corrosive impact on your teeth. It can decay the enamel and stain the teeth to a dull white or even brownish color. When you quit drinking soda, your teeth begin the recovery process. It doesn’t take more than a few months for teeth to regain the luster and shine that they had prior to your soda addiction.
