Your shoes come of your now bare feet and the cold hardwood floor freezes your feet, but you are used to that. Everything is quiet besides the whirring fans and your heavy footsteps. As you near the second floor the light smell of scented wax pulls you in. You lay down…
As Kevin reached the front of the stupefying storm he noticed that the rain didn’t seem to have a particular direction. The rain seemed to have a mind of its own. Moving chaotically and disorderly, but it moved as if it had a purpose. Every step Kevin took seemed to cause a wave, as if he was walking on water.…
The moon hung high in the sky. A perfect silver disk, bleaching the land into a ghost-like replica of daytime. Its supine rays endowing the island with an eerie glow, it seemed to radiate a cold majesty, its beauty bordering hypnotic. The name Ariel sprang unbidden to mind, she seemed to resemble the moon in every way possible. Her eyes cold and distant.…
A hush fall’s over the crowd. It’s as if we can feel their presence, even before they had arrived in the room. I’ve heard stories about them – glorious stories about their battles and triumphs. But I’ve never even come remotely close to meeting one of them or even being in the same room as them! I imagine that most people here are in the same boat, everyone’s heard the stories but no one has ever seen it for themselves.…
You wake up in a patch of golden flowers. They cushioned you, but you still hurt. As you lifted your head all you could see were dark purple walls, and a shadowy door way. Your legs wobbled as you lifted yourself off the ground. You satred at the door, it filled you with determination.…
Tyler White, 41 of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away at 6:30am on the 5th of April 2014. He was at his house when he left us. Tyler was born February 11th, 1973 in Omaha, Nebraska to his mother, Kendra Burnt and his father Steven White. He graduated Central High School in 1994 and attended the University of Nebraska. He then went on to sell insurance at Mutual of Omaha.…
Mojos As I went to Mojos I choose to sit outside on the deck for a little while. The deck had three black, steel tables on it with four chairs at each table— which probably was not a smart idea to sit on since it was absolutely hot outside. When I sat down the uttermost elegant flowers caught my eyes . The flowers were vivid and vibrant, making them stand out from everything outdoors.…
One of my favorite place to go is Gambino’s in Fairhope, Alabama. This little, Italian restaurant on the edge of the bay that has been there since I was a little girl. I always loved getting to dress up in my little, plastic high heels when I was four years old to go to dinner. The car ride to the restaurant is absolutely beautiful with the bay views on one side and the rustic, tiny downtown on the other. I always know we are close to being there when I see the neon light sign with Gambino’s on it peeking around the corner.…
“We’re moving to Florida”. We were sitting at the dining room table when they told us. t must have been a Saturday or we wouldn’t have been in the dining room and it must have been some time in winter, though I don’t remember the month. Of the twelve chairs positioned around the long table, seven were occupied: Two by my parents, four by my sisters and one by me.…
A godly aurora uplifts the wooden box, covered in chipping shades of bumblegum pink and gentle blue, from it’s present state on top of my dresser, as it forever holds the jewels of my past. In search of nostalgia, the contents of this unusual box are shrewn across the sheets of the queen-size bed in which I lay; one earring, one bracelet, one partially broken chain, yet they somehow belong there, despite the distinct differences between these memory-deriving ornaments. Within this miscellanous container, lies a special necklace with a dolphin charm, that always conjures up memories of Coney Island before it’s Great Renovation. It takes me back 5 or 6 years to the day I was twirling through this amusement park; rides blurrily passing by my eyes,…
Honest Horror I am eager to witness the horrors within “America’s scariest” that the masses raved about. Not having a reservation, I am forced to sneak around the attentive guard. The charcoal black suit with legs intimidates all who enter. Luckily, the bouncer stares mindlessly at the black cellular device within his tight grasp as if he guarded that rather than the entrance.…
This room opened in the piazza and had roses all over the window, and such pretty old-fashion chintz hangings as she described. The wife describes this room her husband, John insists on her staying in is big and airy, the whole floor nearly, the windows that look like ways, and air and sunshine galore. She also describes the room as a being a nursery at first and then a playroom and gymnasium. The windows are barred for little children, and there are rings and things in the walls. She then describes the paint and the wallpaper and how she hate it saying the color is repellent, almost revolting; a smoldering unclean yellow, strangely faded by the slow-turning…
The Lake School is out and I’m ready for the lake, but the only problem is that it has been raining for a week now. When you think of summer, you imagine sunshine and endless play. It’s time to go to the lake and enjoy the outdoors. Unfortunately I'm stuck inside bored for days. I’m ready to be outside and feel the sun on my skin, the wind against my face, and the water underneath my body.…
Personal Memoir When I was eleven years old my mother decided it was time to learn about where we truly came from. In December of 2011 my family prepared for a crazy trip. For the first time since the 1980s, my mother and now our family, was going to Honduras. My mother, along with her entire family, was born in Honduras and moved to the United States when she was a teen.…
Euphoria *** We made it! She screeched in joy as she ran down the rolling hills. The wait and struggle was finally over. The beautiful colours and picturesque landscape was too overwhelming, the gardens were perfect and unbelievably symmetrical on each side of the path. We had travelled long and far to reach this moment.…
