Abstract

This literature review contains the history and the gradual development of accounting software over decades. It also encloses the accounting software and packages used in Australia. The market leader in Australia and their size in the market is also discussed. The threats of accounting information system, to the users are outlined with their recommendation to be adopted by the organization in order to minimize the risks and challenges.

According to the Nicolette Maury, managing director of Intuit an independent research firm was commissioned by Intuit to ask 134 small business operators to give feedback on their first time experience of using QuickBooks and Xero. According to the feedback given by those business operators, QuickBooks was easy to use and fast compared to Xero, which are the preference of the small businesses. (Dinham, 2015). Considering the basic business critical tasks that small businesses need to do in the accounting software space, QuickBooks was ahead of Xero. QuickBooks is easy to use and the users were confident in creating an invoice using QuickBooks online compared to Xero. QuickBooks online has a modern look and feel.
