With the ability to critically analyze Erickson’s theories of development, applying comprehensive lessons that address all individuals, and their developmental experiences (Erikson, 1994). As an example, Erickson’s first stage trust Vs mistrust, in educating individuals that learned trust within this stage of their life, they will be far more likely to be open to changes and the lessons that are presented to them (Erikson, 1994). These individuals have learned to trust others, and are confident in learning. Their counterparts, have learned to mistrust during this first stage of development, these individuals tend to be more cynical and less trusting to change (Erickson, 1994). Their experience has taught them that trusting leads to pain and failure. These individuals will be resistant to change and the lessons at hand, it is imperative that the cultural education plan to include measure to deal with individuals that mistrust, perhaps, gaining their trust, along the way. Juxtapose individuals that are in Erickson’s stage eight, Ego Integrity Vs Despair, occurring in late adulthood. As individuals enter into late adulthood, beginning to evaluate their current level of productivity, contemplating retirement, as well as the impact they have had in their career. Individuals that are traversing this stage of development battle sadness, depression, excitement, relief, fear, and anger. Individuals that gravitate toward the despair aspect of this stage, often feel become entrenched in a negative depressive state, they become sensitive and defensive (Erickson, 1994). While the individuals with ego integrity are confident with their choices, personally, and professionally; welcoming a new stage in their lives. Retirement poses a new and exciting chapter in their lives, these individuals are
