Some students who disrupted to others, some who assisted others. Some students who acknowledge Dr. Pree as their mothers, some students who acknowledged Dr. Pree as their girlfriends. Overall the class as filled with multiple personalities that none of the 10 students felt the same. In comparison to a regular elementary classroom, a lot of instructional modifications-accommodations and adaptations are made for the students with disabilities in which the basis of their material is derived from general education subject matter. Learning of the topics is at a much slower pace in comparison to non-disabled students. Often Dr. Pree has to walk the students through the lessons step by step, clear up any disorder from transitioning from one exercise to the next, reteach previous lessons that may have been forgotten, etc. Additional pertinent information that needs to be added to an understanding of the application of teaching models I observed is that Dr. Pree gave lots of encouragement and not a lot of discipline. She would celebrate every little accomplishment each student acquired with the entire class, and give the students treats and rewards for just trying their best. Pree’s special education classroom has 10 diligent students in which the learning environment is about perseverance and putting one’s best foot forward. It has been awhile since I was in elementary school, but the material and vicissitude of the classroom seemed overwhelming, even for a special education classroom. The observation has added more fuel to the flames that keeps me going down this path of an educator. This observation was definitely a learning experience, and I have a new found respect for every person who is in the special education profession. I can say for a second, this observation gave me enough encouragement to tempt me into considering to special education teacher
