When people have a clear goal in their mind, meanwhile with strong determination and will to accomplish this goal, they can easily give their full concentration on this specific goal. Thus, it develops a strong force of motivation, which is an absolutely necessary factor in accomplishing any objectives. This motivation allows you to be perseverance, so obstacles can not easily destroy you; It can also help you to develop organizational and time management skills, which significantly increase your productivity. In 1953, Harvard University in the United States did a follow-up study of current graduates. In this study, they asked whether those graduates had a clear and definite goal for the future and a written plan to achieve their goals. The result was only Less than 3% of students have a positive answer. Twenty years later, in 1973, when he visited his graduate students who were surveyed again, they found that three out of ten students who had a clear goal and a plan are happier and wealthier than other people after 20 years. Moreover, the sum of the wealth of these three percent is actually greater than the total wealth of the other ninety-seven percent of all students.This example explains the significant effect of a clear and definite goal in the long run. This is a simple to understand: You cannot reach your destination if you are heading the wrong direction, no matter how hard you try. For example, in the novel‘ Death of a salesman’ written by Arthur Miller, Willy Loman wants to make his children rich and famous. However, his unrealistic expectations unable his children to explore their own personal interests and strength, which leads them toward the wrong direction toward success. In the end, Willy decides to suicide to benefit his family, because he foolishly believes that many people will attend his funeral. He never has a chance to understand the essential reason for his failure and his children’s struggle, which is the lack of self-awareness.
