This is a benefit as it broadens your knowledge and experiences to work in a wide range of areas of nursing. For example, to work in paediatrics you are required to gain a certificate in paediatric nursing this is an extra year of study. (Acn.edu.au, 2017)
Informal learning- is a casual way of learning it doesn’t have a goal, it is self-directed.
Examples of informal learning are reading articles and watching videos.
Formal learning- has a goal, for example you are learning to gain a qualification or certificate. Benefits from informal and formal learning gains knowledge and further employment opportunities.

To improve performance in nursing It is important to reflect. reflecting on things such as, what you can improve on, what you aren’t doing so well, filling in any gaps of learning required and setting goals. Also obtain mentoring from other colleagues as everyone gains different experiences and new skills. It also gives you the opportunity to receive feedback/tips.
