Nutrition Concepts In The Health Questionnaire

In this assignment, students have to interview one individual who are age 65 and older. Students’ relatives or present friends are not recommended to participate in their own term project. However, students are welcome to help each other by loaning their relatives and friends. In the interview, students will ask the interviewee some questions in order to fill in the health questionnaire. The questionnaire was provided and revised in the lecture. The purpose of the assignment is to understand how one’s eating habit, cultural background, lifestyle, and living condition can relate to health by doing a face-to face interview.

I met my subject in the Thanksgiving dinner party. The subject is a 67-year-old male, and he is my aunt’s friend.

After the delighted dinner, people were talking to each other, and meeting new friends. Therefore, there were no embarrassments during our conversation. In addition, the subject was interested about my major, which is dietetics because he said it was seldom to meet people who is dietetics major. Therefore, he was willing to talk to me, and answer my questions. During the interview, I explained the purpose of the assignment, and some nutrition concepts in the questionnaire to the subject. Therefore, he felt glad that he could help me, and know more about nutrition. Overall, the interview went through smoothly and …show more content…
Currently, he has hypertension, hyperglycemia, and excessive body weight. Based on the information I obtained, I suspect the subject will have a higher risk of getting diabetes, CVD and stroke. My dietary recommendation is to reduce intakes of sugary desserts. The desserts that my subject likes are high in sugar content such as ice cream, brownies, cakes, and pie. In addition, the portion size of the desserts in his diet was big. Therefore, it increased his sugar intakes, and it cause diabetes potentially. He might reduce the portion size and frequency to have desserts in the diets. Thus, he might replace desserts with fresh fruit, yogurts, etc. Other than the modifications on diet, he might increase his physical activities level. Enough exercises are vital for maintaining good health, and may help him to lose those excessive body weight. Therefore, 30 minutes jogging each day can be an option. Overall, my recommendations are aimed at reducing excessive sugar and calories intake. Thus, hopefully lower the subject’s risk of getting serious health
